Be wary if you are considering used
meters and gauges. This is just one
example of the many stories we hear
about and see. A new SVP manifold
customer had purchased some of their
other neon equipment “used” from an
Internet source. They were told this is
what they needed to monitor bombarding
current. Our customer said it didn’t work
right and asked us to take a look at it
for them. The first thing noticeable is the
size of the meter. It is too small to read from
any distance, such as if it were mounted
on a wall away from the operator. Second,
if you look closely, the meter has a range
of 0-10 Amperes, which is 0-10,000 mA.
It is completely useless for bombarding
purposes. When the bombarder was
engaged and turned up to an actual
current of 1,000 mA this meter would
only go to “1” (the first graduation on the
scale) as 1 amp equals 1,000 mA.
